the printer works fine from the other 'windows' remote users, the driver on the server isnt an issue.
on the hp thin client with the linux version of the microsoft remote desktop client, we have a similar selection, but it only deals with sounds. there is no 'local drives' choice because, well, there is no local drive at all. no printer choice there either.
forcing the bringing of printers at the server level doesnt do anything because microsoft's server isnt ready to talk with the linux client...
it's looking like i'm going to have to feed it back over the internet back into the printer bypassing the remote session.. but i really want to know how the rest of the world does it...

I know on the RDP client windows provides there is an option when you click the LOCAL RESOURCES tab to allow local printers. You said the t5000 thin client is using a flavor of linux, so I don't know if you can use that same option on the server side for clients connecting.
I hope that helps lead in the right direction. You will need to have the driver on the server for the local printer though.
