The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Terminal Services Access Permissions not granted to Remote Desktop Users

Asked by rdbconcepts in Windows 2003 Server

Hi

We have a variety of servers that we connect to from home / wyse terminals using Remote Desktop.

For some reason, I have had to grant Domain Admin rights to everyone in order for this to work... This is naturally a temporary measure!!!

Ive been looking through the site to see if anyone has had this issue, and can see some answers but they dont seem to work for us.

Our set up is as follows;

Active Directories is running on w2k3
5 servers are running w2k3, 2 are w2k and one desktop is XP pro.

I have created a test account that has been granted Domain User and Remote Desktop user rights.

When that user tries to connect, the following message appears;

To logon to this computer you must have terminal server user access permissions on this computer. By default, members of the remote desktop users group have these permissinos, if you are not a member of the RDU group or another group that has these permissions, or if the RDU group does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually.

So - you can connect if you have domain admin rights - all machines have the settings correct for allowing terminal services through etc.Each user is allowed to terminal service according to the AD U&C terminal services tab and the global policies appear to be correct to allow you through

Ive run the secpol.msc thingy to open the local policy and in Local Policy, User Rights Assignment bit, Allow logon through Terminal services lists Administrator, Administrators and domain users as being allowed through. Bearing in mind these users have domain user access, I would expect that to be enough, but I was going to add the RDU group anyway to be on the safe side. problem is, I cant do anything - the buttons are greyed out.

So - has anyone seen this delightful problem before and do you know a way around it - or failing that, how do you see what permissions a user group has allowed to it, as I dont seem to be able to view them. I can only see what the group is a member of, who are members of it and who manages it.

Any help much appretiated as i need to lock the system down!

Thanks
