E-mail on Small Business Server

Asked by tthayer in Windows 2003 Server

I have just setup a 2003 Small Business Server for a friend with a local business. I will have a Cisco Pix for connecting to the network from the internet.  I am needing to find out how to use the outlook on their computer to get e-mail via smtp and pop3 from this server weather they are connected to the local network or VPN through the Cisco PIX.  They also are interested in creating group tasks, contacts and using the calender.  I know I can do the exchange mailbox type and also go to the web based.  I also joined the domain and used the exchange mailbox type.  I really don't want them to join the domain because it creates a new desktop for them and then they can not see their old desktop with custom applications.  When I look in the Exchange System Manager under server under protocols I see the SMTP started but the POP3 has a red X and will not start.  This is a fresh install I just don't know what I need to do.

Bottom line is to get e-mail from internal or external through vpn with ability to have shared contacts, use tasks to assign employees tasks and group calendar so everyone can see what is on the agenda.Start Free Trial
