For the past 3 years, I've been generating and renewing a single, simple SSL cert on our IIS 6.x webserver (Windows 2003 SP1) without any issues.
Now my renewal is up again and when I cut and paste my CSR into my SSL providers website, it says it is invalid and it cannot decode the CSR.
Initially, when I was trying to renew last week, it WAS able to recognize the CSR data and all was great - until the providers website timed out near the end of the purchase and nothing was processed. I tried it again and their website failed again near the end. The third time I tried it is when my server started generating apparently garbage CSR's.. (I generated a new CSR each time I tried to renew it). From that point forth, NO provider (I have tried more than one SSL provider) can decode my CSR data!
As I understand it, I need to create a temporary dummy site in IIS, then generate the CSR from that site. After it's processed and completed, then I can plug in the finished cert into my main site.. that's how I've been doing it.
How in the heck do I even start troubleshooting this?
The error I am getting from my SSL providers site when I paste the CSR: (again, have tried 2 diff providers now)
* The domain specified in the CSR - null - is not a valid domain.
* Unable to decode CSR data.
