If the app is indeed there and "listening" then reboot the server to bring the Services file in.

Browse All TopicsHi..
I already installed a Windows 2003 R2 STD Server 32 bits with all the service packs that Windows request.
I have a request from Human Resources to open a port 33100 TCP.
I turn off the Firewall of my Network Interface Card and I did this small test
I run CMD
and from C: Prompt a type this command
c:\telnet 192.168.9.148 33100
and replies me a message..
"Connecting To 192.168.9.148...Could not open connection to the host, on port 33100: Connect failed"
So I went to C:\windows\system32\driver
tress 33100/tcp #HR
tress 33100/udp #HR
from my Pix firewall I type this line
access-list acl_inside permit tcp 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 any eq 33100 (Just for make some test to open all the networks, but not work)
access-list acl_inside permit udp 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 any eq 33100
and from my client computer I went to that part and added too
1. C:\windows\system32\driver
2. Edit services file and I type this line
tress 33100/tcp #HR
tress 33100/udp #HR
and not work..
So I just wonder how can I make this work to be listening on the network..
any questions or solutions?
Regards
RTL

when I want to check if the port is open, I use always the command telnet.
for example, to see if the port 80 is open
I type:
telnet 192.168.9.148 80
and the server answer.
that´s how I determining that the server port is open.
So I want to try with the port 33100 TCP, but not answer.
I attempted to use the app client with the server to establish with 33100 port and not works..
any ideas..?

well you have to have something setup to actually do something on that port.
for example, enabling telnet will 'open' port 23, enabling a web server will "open" up port 80. Then after the port is actually 'listening then you would actually open the port on your firewall/router (assuming you wanted it to pass through it).
did you do anything to actually make your computer 'listen' on port 33100?
why is the HR department asking for it?
