What are the benifits of a VPN?

I recently set up a VPN conection useing Windows Server 2003 RRAS. While it works it seems to be very slow compared to other faster options such as Remote Desktop. What I was wondering is why or when would I want to use a VPN if is so much slower that using remote desktop to work remotely.Start Free Trial
