Ipswitch Imail mail server POP timeout

I am running Ipswitch Imail v8.15 on a Windows 2003 Server (SP2).  This was working fine.  Since last week I can no longer get mail via POP.  The mail is on the server, and can be read through the Imail web interface.  Pop clients report the correct number of emails waiting, but time out when trying to download the first one.

I've tried deleting all the email, restarting the server, etc. (all the easy answers).  The size of the waiting email does not matter.

I can log into the POP server via Telnet.  The server responds to commands such as LIST and DELE.  When issued the RETR command the server sends about a screen full of the email then pauses and never restarts.

What has changed?  I can see two possibilities.  Around the time this stopped working I had trouble with the Gbit NIC card on the server, so I switched to another one and assigned it the same fixed IP address.  This interface works for all other services (Web, fileserver, etc.)  The second possibility I can see is that Microsoft put out some security patches that were downloaded and applied to the server.  Also, one unrelated hard drive was swapped out for a larger one.  Other than those, I can't think of anything that changed.

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong, or what else to try?
