Question

print spooler blocking

Asked by: gaby_dj

I have a print spooler problem. The servers are Windows 2003 standard edition and the printers are Samsung 2010 (laser) and HP 1010 (laser).
The print Spooler service is blocked sometimes. It is happening apparently without any rule , without any error message for users who are tryng to print documents from the application they are using. There are cases when the application is OK , but there are cases when the system is blocked. If I stop Print Spooler and then I am starting it again , the problem is solved.
Next lines are a few errors in Event viewer.

Hi gaby_dj;

SYMPTOMS
The print queue on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer may stop working for a printer that uses the standard port monitor (SPM) for TCP/IP. Specifically, the Print Spooler service may stop sending print jobs to this printer, even though the spooler continues to send print jobs to other printers. In this situation, the print job in the printer's queue shows a status of "Printing." If you remove the print job from the queue, and then you try to print again, the same problem occurs.

If this sounds like the problem you are having, click this link and install the hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934885

If not, then there is a work around by stopping ans starting the spooler via a scheduled task...

Hi,

I had the same problem and I installed the hotfix (Article ID : 934885) but it didn't resolve the issue. I tried disabling the "SNMP Status Enabled" Option in the "Port settring" of the printer properties windows.

Hope this helps.

Hi
There are more than 25 printers installed on server. I don't know if is just one or is aleatory .

by: alouettePosted on 2007-05-11 at 07:00:44ID: 19072075

In my case, the printers that fall into offline state have this option enabled. For these printers, disabling "SNMP Status Enabled" option resolved the issue. A temporary solution was to restart the "print spooler" service every 3 min.

Ps : The problem appeared after installing Windows server 2003 Service Pack 2 and a few others patches.

Try looking at the dependencies for the print spooler.
