Question about backing up Microsoft Virtual Servers.

Asked by chris_shaw in Windows 2003 Server, SBS Small Business Server

Tags: virtual, backup, server, microsoft

Backing up a Microsoft Virtual Server. I guess this is best done from the host server, as virtual server does not recognise tape drives.  In this way also you only have 3 or files to backup - the virtual disk drives plus the definition and save state files.
Assuming I am using NTBACKUP, my question is will such a backup work OK while the virtual server is up and running, or must the Virtual Server be shut down prior to such a backup being made from the host server?Start Free Trial
