Step by Step setup of DFS with Windows Server 2003

I need Step by Step help in setting up DFS, between 2 Windows Server 2003 (not R2) at 2 different locations.  I have read though a lot of the postings and have tried several, to just get me more confused.  Here’s what I want to do.

Have 2 offices, users roam between both offices and need access to there “users” and “public” files.  The “users” folder is accessible by only the logged on user, and “public” is for everone.  The 2 offices are VPN’d  together with a 1.5 DSL.  Currently the data is on the main office server.  Accessing the data from the second office takes forever (slow).  We have been using flash drives to carry the data back and forth and well – you know how that goes.

Main office server has the following, 2 partitions, first is the OS, second is for the data. Drives “C & D”.  on the “D” the following shared folders:
D:\apps            - used to share common applications
D:\users      - used by the logged on user for personal files and is where the    “My Documents is redirected to from the local machine”
D:\public            - used as share for all users

Branch Office is set the same, but the shared folders are not set up as of yet, due to DFS.

Both servers are running: Active directory, DNS and WINS – replication does work between the two.  This is one common domain, called  “rns.local”

Workstations at both offices are Windows XP Pro w/SP2.  All workstations and users accounts are setup identical.  Only changes would be some of the applications on the various workstations.  Users get mapped drives at log on:  p: to public and u: to users.

Main office server is called “server-01” and Branch office is “server-02”.

I need to have the data from the main office copied onto the branch office server.  As updates and changes are made at either office, those changes need to be replicated out to the other server.

Also do I need to redirect the users to a different share for the data

Where do I need to begin?  Steps Please…   Thanks

I am going to give you some links here that really helped me.  I know you said 'not R2", but there is still a lot of information in that article that will help.

http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/14211e1f-2dbd-418d-b721-2005c725ce351033.mspx?mfr=true

Here are some others.

I used this one and it was very good.  It's a two part article.

I think he needed DFS not DNS step by steps.  The title of the question confused me for a minute.
