Installing DNS after installing Active Directory

I just installed Active Directory on a new domain controller.  I usually do the "Add a Role" and have AD configure the DNS service as well, but I did a straight up dcpromo this time.  After a reboot I installed the DNS service.  Now, I'm looking to make sure the DNS servers will replicate with each other properly for the AD domain.  Is there anything else I have to do or should it do it by itself?

If it is an active directory linked DNS server you should have no problems...

If you have Active Directory Integrated DNS it will have been installed by default. Check in Administrative tools and see if DNS is listed.

If DNS is not Active Directory Integrated, go to one of the other DCs that has DNS and expamd DNS so that you can see your domains Forward Lookup Zone. Right click on the Zone and select Properties. On the general Tab. make sure type is set to Active Directory Integrated, if no use the CHANGE button to set it. - it will then replicate with AD automatically.

In the unlikely event of you having to manually Install DNS, then you can do this through Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Windows Components. DNS is under Networking Services, tick the DNS box and confirm installation.

DNS doesn't get installed automatically just because you DCPROMO a server into AD with AD Integrated Zones.

Simply install DNS (as you've done) and if the zones are AD Integrated do nothing more.  Replication will create and populate the zones provided replication is working.

OK, does this means that it is OK to perform DCPromo first (DC+GC) and then manually add DNS and set it up as AD-Integrated ?
