When trying to log on to a windows 2003 based server, I get the following message:
"You cannot log on now because the domain (domain name) is not available"
I saw a few cached authentication posts related to this issue, but this is not the case here. That server can be pinged and is still sharing files.

Check the domain membership of the workstation. Sounds like you may have lost its membership.
