dns problems on windows 2003

Asked by g-techforce in Windows 2003 Server, Domain Name Service (DNS)

I'm having a problem with my vista clients being able to ping the hostname of the server. the vista clients can ping the ip of the server but not the hostname. Here is my info:

Default Server:  server1.globaltechforce.local
Address:  192.168.1.10

Client info:
Address: 192.168.1.11
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1
dns1: 192.168.1.1
dns2: 192.168.1.10

the server "server1" is the DHCP and DNS server. I can type ping server1 on the server and get a reply back but cannot do it from a client. the clients have internet access and can ping other hostnames on the internet. therfor Im sure i have a DNS problem on teh server but I havnt been able to track it down.
