And you can back these up with any normal backup program, like microsoft backup or Symantec Backup exec. It will use Shadow copy for ntbackup, and Symantec has its own way to backup open files as well

The best way to back them up is to export them from the Event Viewer - right click on the log and select Save Log File As. You can export the files in native .evt fromat for reloading into the event viewer at a later date (right click on the "event viewer (local)" and select Open Log file) or as a delimited file for import into a database/spreadsheet.
