Only two Administrative RDP Sessions instead of three possible
Hi,
If I will connect with the third User on a Windows Server 2003 System, I get the Message "The connection was ended because of a network error..."
I know that Terminal Services in Administrative Mode can handle two simultanous RDP connection plus a third in console mode.
My Problem is that I can connect just two sessions. It makes no difference if I connect twice without /console or one with /console - always just two connections possible. I checked the Eventlog and the GPO and the Terminal Services MSC - All Settings are the same as the other houndreds of 2003 Servers we have. Only this one let us connect twice - all other act as espected: two "normal" connection plus one /con connection are possible.
OS: Windows Server 2003 EN / SP1 (32-Bit)
Thanks for your help

The /console switch will connect to an existing console session if present and as long as you login with the same userid that is logged into the console. If both situations aren't true, you will connect as a normal RDP session and be limited to 2 sessions.
By default RDP only allow 2 connections at the same time, you would have to install TS services in application mode to allow more than 2 sessions.
ATIG,
As dneuhaus mentioned, you actually get three sessions in Administrative mode. Two remote RDP session and one console session that can be accessed remotely via RDP as per my previous post.

Dear Pber, sorry - but your comment is rubbish!
You can ALWAYS connect to a console session in W2K3. If a user is connected to the console of the server you will be prompted to logout the currently active session (if you have the corresponding rights!)
As I sayd - just one of hundred W2K3 act as described
@ATIG, yes I know - just read my Question - you can connect with two sessions PLUS one with the /console switch.
Try it:
1) connect with the first user - ok
2) connect with the second user - ok
3) connect with the third user - not ok!
4) connect with the third user with mstsc /v:"servername" /con - ok!

Bear in mind that of you use the /console option, any one actually sat at the machine will have their session terminated.

500 Point ar not for free!
I'm not new with Terminal Services and I will assure that I have really checked the GPO and mutch other possible errors I can had with this Machine.
But I'm very glad to get some tips to solve that problem

You can get 2 RDP sessions and a Console session. Total of 3

Yes - but just 2 simultanous sessions will work on that server (as I explained)
One "normal" and one "console" or
two "normal"
but not 2! - that is my problem!

@Pber,
You get the 500 Points!
The Reg Key HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControl Set\Contro l\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp \MaxInstan ceCount was set to "2" instead of "ffffffff"
It doesn't represent the Number of simultaneous connections setting in the TS msc - but anyway - it resolved.
Thanks a lot
