Hi,

There are several possible causes.

Could you please run netdiag and dcdiag on one of the failing servers, and post the results here ?

Cheers

Does anyone see anything unusual?

by: crsrvnPosted on 2007-08-23 at 14:33:21ID: 19757956

It looks like my first DNS Server does not have a  _msdcs.mydomain.net under it's forward lookup zones.
Plus the  mydomain.net do not appear to be active directory integrated. Should any of these be changed?

Thanks for posting the results.

If there is no particular reason for you to use an old school "primary / secondary" scheme, I suggest you change all zones to AD integrated, dynamic secure updates only.

Let say for some reason my scheme needed to be a primary/secondary scheme. And I changed all my zones to active directory integrated. What negative effects should I expect? I'm asking this because I am not sure why there is a primary/secondary scheme, and I'm not sure if I should change anything.

Hi,

If all of your DNS servers are Windows 2003 and part of an AD domain, there would be absolutely no side effects. On the contrary, it woud be better because your DNS zones would replicate with AD, hence a better reliability. On the other hand, should a problem occur, it would be very easy to switch back to the previous scheme.
