Group Policy for Vista in Server 2003 R2
Hello,
I have installed a new Standard Server 2003 R2 with Vista clients. All features in Vista cannot be configured / or it doesn't work (eg prevent users from making changes in windows firewall) via a group policy in 2003 Server. I've searched around the net and EE but I'm note sure how to import / or where to find a group policy template to 2003 server for Vista. I helped another customer a while ago with a SBS 2003 and I rember I saw a Vista Group Policy... I'm a beginner in the GP world... :)
Do I need to install GPMC (I noticed that it's from 2004...)?
Where can I get a "policy template"?
How do I install/import the "template" on the 2003 Server?
Thank you in advance.

Thanks, but I have already checked the links earlier today...Still don't understand how I can setup a group policy for Vista on the 2003 Server R2....I would be happy if you can explaint it in an easy way.
I thought it worked this way: Download a Vista template and then import it on the 2003 server. I don't want to edit the group policy on each Vista machine...
I'm feeling very stupid..... Thank you in advance.

Depending on the policy you are trying to set (something that can be managed in both XP and VIsta, like certain IE settings) you can manage them at the client level without modifying local policy settings using GPEDIT.
When you create a policy on your server it's stored in (\\domain.com\sysvol\domai n.com\poli cies) If you go into GPMC and look at the details tab you will see a Unique ID. Look in \\domain.com\sysvol\domain .com\polic ies for the UID that matches the policy you want to migrate to your vista clients and copy it to a thumb drive or file share.
On the Vista client, go into that same path \\domain.com\sysvol\domain .com\polic ies and paste the folder containing the policy informaiton there.
In command prompt do a gpupdate /force and you will see your vista client accept the policy and it's settings. I did this for various Outlook 2007 policies as well as Internet Explorer 7 Policy Settings.
If you want to centrally manage Vista and XP Policies you will need to introduce server 2008 into your organization.
