how to hide a printer

I would like to be able to install printers to computers but only have them visible to certain user groups. I am running XP pro SP2, windows server 2003 and am using group policies if there is a setting in there possibly. Again, I don't want to restrict printing to certain groups I want to completely hide the printer from everyone except certain groups. Is this possible? thanks you

If the user does not have any permision to the printer (you deny all) the printer will not be visible on the network by them.
I agree with Mikkk.  You could also create different groups, place the printers into those groups, and then assign that specific group to certain users as well.  Thus creating a similar situation as Mikkk suggested.

the permissions for the printer are set to allow only one user to currently use the printer (print and manage docs). No other permissions are set for any other groups or users because I am testing it. Yet, when i login to the computer as a different user with no permissions the printer is still listed in start, settings, printers (it says access is denied and I can't print to it, but it is still visible). I want the printer to be invisible to users with no permissions.

I think your best bet might be to not list the printer in AD.  Then use either a login script or manually installing the printer you want the user to have.  Would be simple to create an AD group for each printer (HP_LaserJet_Admin for example) and add the users you want to use that printer.  Then, in your login script, IF user is in group X install X printer, etc.

That would do it.
