Windows 2003 Sync with desktop question

I have a windows 2003 server enviornment and using roaming profiles.  When i want to put something on my users desktops from the server they have to log off then back on to see the new icon.  I remember before there was a way that when i put the icon it would just appear.  

I am also having problems with they being able to sync and delete stuff from their desktop.  I think they are both related to each other as something is not set up right.

do you not want them to be able to sync? if you don't, then you can disable sync in GPO or logon as local administrator and go to control panel > folder options > offline files and untick Enable Offline Files.

I do want them to sync properly.  Right now the icons come back when they delete them. it doesnt seem to be a permission problem or anything like that.  I also want that when i put a icon on their server profile it shows up on their desktop with out them having to log off and back on.

the icons may come back because you have their desktop profile on the server, but it may also get stored locally. and what happens is that it will use local profile and keep uploading them to the server during logoff process.
