Changing NIC card during setup caused problems

This is a case of the problem has been fixed, but i now want to know why.
Started setting up a new MS server 2003 standard.  Very simple.  No domain controller, just a simple workgroup.  The server had two NIC ports.  For some reason, i switch to the other port at some point during the setup.  When I finished the setup, I applied all the security downloads, and set a simple share on one of the new data directories.  That's where it all went bad.

I could not see the share from the client PC's.  Tried using simple UNC from explorer, tried browsing the server name.  Tried all sorts of combinations with security and permissions on the shares.  Thought it might be a DNS problem so i made the new server a DNS server, and still couldn't see the server name.

Nothing.
Then i disabled the NIC that i moved to, and moved back to the original NIC and all is working!!!!

But why?  Is something keeping track of the MAC address some where?  How would one clear this?

Thanks a bunch!Start Free Trial
