The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Disaster Recovery advice

Asked by brookesm in Windows 2003 Server, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Service (DNS)

Hi,
I am currently implementing a disaster recovery plan, this has been done within the college previously without details documentation to back it up so I am a little lost. I am starting with one PC and have installed Windows Server 2003 standard edition. I have no router, and the PC is connected to a switch and nothing else. We need to get the backups etc restored and test to make sure we can log on and get the correct information back.

The problem is I have installed windows server and now I am lost! I have not done this before! I have tried to configure the PC as a DHCP server but it keeps getting the localhost address of 127.0.0.1 so it doesn't recognise itself as the DHCP server.

The NIC is configured with a static ip address as follows:
IP Address: 172.16.2.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default gateway: blank as I have no external connection
Preferred DNS server: 172.16.2.1 (not configured)

I also tried to run DCPROMO but got the following message:

The TCP/IP networking protocol must be properly configured in order to proceed. Complete the configuration

Any advice / guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks

Natalie
