We have a standalone XP Pro computer that hosts Kaseya remote support software, and nothing more. We can connect to it by simply browsing to the static IP for that computer, and logging into Kaseya, and from there we can support clients.
We need to retire this old XP computer and want to go to a real server running Win 2003, mainly because that's what Kaseya tech support recommends. XP was easy to set up in it's out-of-the-box standard configuration...just standard XP. Can Win 2003 be set up in an equally simple standalone way---where we could simply connect to it with the static IP and log into Kaseya, just like we do now? Or is Win 2003 necessarily more restrictive---or anything else that would make this unrealistic?
I have dealt with SBS 2003 a little, but never with Win 2003. When I tried to do an install, it came to a screen with about ten setup and installation options--here again more complicated than a typical XP setup. If what I want to do can be done, are there some guidelines published somewhere that would tell me how to proceed, i.e. set it up like our simple XP computer is now? Or, will I need to hire help from an expert?
We currently have a software firewall running on the XP box, and I do realize that I may need additional protection. But I'd like to save that for a future discussion--after I find out if what I'm trying to do is even feasible. TIA
