The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Tags: Microsoft, server 2003, Robocopy
Dear all,

I am setting up a robocopy to copy form 6 drives on server NAVSQL to a backup Server call LAB_ICT_NAVBACK which has the same six drives setup. each of thedrives contain two database files which i need to copy arcoss to the same drive letter on the back server. I have created the following bat file.

robocopy "E:\Lab370_1.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData1" /B /log:c:\log1.txt
robocopy "E:\Lab370_2.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData1" /B /log:c:\log2.txt
robocopy "F:\Lab370_3.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData2" /B /log:c:\log3.txt
robocopy "F:\Lab370_4.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData2" /B /log:c:\log4.txt
robocopy "G:\Lab370_5.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData3" /B /log:c:\log5.txt
robocopy "G:\Lab370_6.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData3" /B /log:c:\log6.txt
robocopy "H:\Lab370_7.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData4" /B /log:c:\log7.txt
robocopy "H:\Lab370_8.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData4" /B /log:c:\log8.txt
robocopy "I:\Lab370_9.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData5" /B /log:c:\log9.txt
robocopy "I:\Lab370_10.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData5" /B /log:c:\log10.txt
robocopy "J:\Lab370_11.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData6" /B /log:c:\Log11.txt
robocopy "J:\Lab370_12.fdb" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData6" /B /log:c:\Log12.txt

is this the best way to do or shall do it another way? this is running locally on NAVSQL server so thats why i have used the local path.
Source server = NAVSQL
Destination Server = LAB_ICT_NAVBACK

And all i want to do is copy 2 files from each drive to the same drives on the backup machine.

Thanks for all your help.

robocopy has a slightly different syntax than copy/xcopy; the first two arguments are the source *folder* and target *folder*. Files in these folders are copied by default; additional arguments without robocopy options are considered file masks (check robocopy.doc in the ResKit folder for details).
In addition, if you're using a log file, you should use /np to suppress the progress bar, which doesn't really look good in a log file.
So to only copy these DB files (assuming that these .fdb names are the actual DB files), something like this should do the trick.
1:

robocopy "E:" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData1" Lab370_1.fdb Lab370_2.fdb /B /np /log:c:\logE.txt
robocopy "F:" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData2" Lab370_3.fdb Lab370_4.fdb /B /np /log:c:\logF.txt
robocopy "G:" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData3" Lab370_5.fdb Lab370_6.fdb /B /np /log:c:\logG.txt
robocopy "H:" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData4" Lab370_7.fdb Lab370_8.fdb /B /np /log:c:\logH.txt
robocopy "I:" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData5" Lab370_9.fdb Lab370_10.fdb /B /np /log:c:\logI.txt
robocopy "J:" "\\LAB_ICT_navback\NavData6" Lab370_11.fdb Lab370_12.fdb /B /np /log:c:\logJ.txt

Yes, by default, if source and target file are different, robocopy will overwrite the target file.

does this do it by date modified? or time stamp?

Thanks

By file time and size.
I'd recommend reading the robocopy.doc file in the ResKit install folder; robocopy is very powerful, and the documentation is very useful. In the case of which files robocopy copies when, check the "file classes".
