Question

Windows 2003 Server automatically restarts

Asked by: burhanm

We are facing a problem with one of our Windows 2003 server. the problem is that it restarts automatically and creates a minidump file after every crash. This happened almost 4-5 times, so we thought it could be with the server memory, so we completly replaced the 8 GB RAM on the server. But still the problem hasn't resolved and the server keeps restarting every 5-10 days.
For your info, the server is hosting Oracle APPS application and patched up to date from widows update site.
For further reference i have attched the latest minidump file for anyone's review. pls change the extension of the file from .log to .dmp for proper review. (.dmp was not in the allowed file upload list on this site)
Hope to get the solution from you guys

Regards

  • Mini032908-01.log
    • 70 KB

This is the .dmp file pls change the extension from .log to .dmp

You shouldn't post not allowed files like this, you can use this to upload such files:

It looks like the following file is causing your crashes:

cqmgstor.exe

Check the hp site for updates.

One minidump is insufficient to find out the root cause. Attach 3 to 4 minidumps here. If all the dumps have the same symptoms, we can confirm the culprit

As per your request, i have attached 4 another minidump files (which were created at the time of earlier crash) in .log extension, pls change it to .dmp (did not find much help on http://www.ee-stuff.com to upload such files)

You have to login, then select Expert Area, and there you have the option to upload a new file. You then have to post the link to the upload here.

It still looks like a driver problem. Have you checked the HP site for new drivers (or whatever manufacturer the Server is from)?

by: burhanmPosted on 2008-04-06 at 23:45:59ID: 21294716

Dear Rindi,
The Server made is HP Blade 460C class. Could you pls pin point on which drivers you are pointing to, regarding this problem??? I can go back to my hardware vendor and ask them to update the drivers, because it is still under warranty, but i need to know which drivers we need to update?
Pls let me know.
Regards

No, I don't know which drivers, but it looks like a driver problem. Check the hp site and update all drivers for your system. The first minidump pointed to a driver of the storage controller, but the others didn't.

Reference to gatorvip comments......This is a recently deployed oracle application server so i dont see that anything was changed on this server. As far as frequent restart is concerned, i have some very intresting analysis.
Initially the server use to restart every 7 days and that too around 1 pm i.e. sometime @ 1:17, 1:37, 1:04 and 1:40 pm and so onnn.... then there was a gap of around 30 days when it did not restart (this was the time when we replaced the RAM on the server) after that again it started crashing and the recent restart happened yesterday and the that too it was at 1:39 pm. someting weired.........
I have confirmed that there is no scheduled tasks configured at this time.

After I analyse the minidump. Your version of Norton AV has known problem which causes BSOD.

The timestamp of your Norton AV is 450F3F43 (SYMEVE folloNT.SYS Tue Sep 19 08:52:19 2006 ).  You had better upgrade Norton AV.Refer the following problem and it had exactly the same version of Norton AV as yours.

i removed symantec a/v and installed AVG on the server. I am presently monitoring to see if it restarts again during the coming days. I'll provide the feedback after monitoring.

It again looks like the driver for your raid controller.

From your minidup I find Norton AV still at your server.  You haven't un-install Norton AV.

I had uninstalled Symantec av, but for some reason the live update (which comes with symantec) was not getting unsintalled so i left it. i assume that live update would not be conflicting with the system. correct me if i am wrong.

by: rindiPosted on 2008-05-21 at 03:56:25ID: 21613644

Go to the symantec site and download the symantec removal tool. Their software doesn't uninstall nicely and that tool removes everything for you.
