Mail Bouncing -  same domain name

Asked by Garethgtt in Windows 2003 Server, Exchange Email Server, Domain Name Service (DNS)

Hi Guys,

I have win2003 and exchange 2003 my internal domain name is the same as an external domain name we are trying to send mail to (stupid i know but this was set up years ago before most people knew about naming.local)

so i am getting those emails bounced back saying
' A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients.'

Ive thought about adding an mx record to my DNS for my local domain pointing it towards the external domains public ip mx address but im not sure if that will cause chaos for internal mail.

Ive also thought about renaming my internal domain-- but it seems risky and id rather resolve the issue another way if i can.

so just to clarify-- my internal domain is somthing.co.uk our email addresses are somthing.com and we are trying to send an email to an external companies email address which is somthing.co.uk
