SYSVOL tree empty and gpt.ini file missing

Asked by rupertvz in Windows 2003 Server, Active Directory, Domain Name Service (DNS)

Hi Guys,

My DC is giving an error message in the event log on startup:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO {}

I checked the SYSVOL share and there is no tree present and the gpt.ini file is also missing.
- I did the burflags restore with D4 value and did not help.
- The GUID is also missing in SYSVOL.
SYSVOL only shows the local domain, but is empty.

The following KB from MS indicates how to restore the Gpttmpl.inf file, but I am sure how to get the GUID and tree back?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/226243

I suspect the missing items has to do with a previous recovery of the SYSVOL and NETLOGON missing folders.

Help will be much appreciated.
