Force a RAID device driver upgrade

Asked by jentel2 in Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 Server

I am trying to upgrade a device driver for a RAID controller but Windows 2003 says it couldn't find  a good match in the folder which contains the upgrade files when I try to upgrade in the device manager.
The reason might because the company name is different. Mylex vs LSI Corporation. The .sys filename to be replaced is the same.

I have another system with the same controller and driver running just fine. I don't remember how I got it installed.
It's just the .sys file I need to to replace. I know how to replace it by rebooting Windows from CD using Bart or ERD Commander. However this is a colocated server so I want to replace the .sys file remotely.

Any ideas? How does Windows know the driver is not a candidate? I am assuming it's reading the .inf and/or the .oem file to determine this. Since these are text files, I want to know what attribute(s) in the file to change to trick Windows and let the upgrade go.
