Scripting in Windows 2003 Active Directory

Hello....1) What and or why would a administrator use scripting in W2k3 AD over GPOs or batch files??

2) What type of scripting is used or the most commom? Cscripts, Wscripts and what are the differences?

3) What is the difference between scripting, GPOs and batch files?

I would appreciate some laymans terms and not so much web sites, unless you think the sites are at a begineers level.
