Cannot find Server - the page cannot be displayed

Asked by bertster in Windows 2003 Server, SBS Small Business Server, Internet Explorer Web Browser

Tags: Microsoft, IE 6 & DNS, 6

All workstations (5) and the server are now unable to browse the internet. Each time they open IE the get the message:

Cannot find server
The page cannot be displayed

I've tracked down the last time they could access pages ok and it was 17/06/2008 at around 09:10am, since then nothing. The workstations and server can ping internal ip addresses and internet ip addresses and also they can ping dns names such as www.google.co.uk, so it appears that dns is resolving the names ok. Just everytime we try and use IE to open a page we get the error.

All workstations are a mix of XP and 2K, Server is SBS 2003 SP1
I've been through all the logs but cant find anything that I can relate to the problem. There is a Service (Microsoft Search) that shows as Automatic and will not start, producing error:

"Could not start the Microsoft Serch service on Local Computer"
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

I'm not sure if that is related to the problem or not. Hoping you techies can help - THANKS
