Windows Server 2003 gray screen
When the server boots up into ANY mode, normal, safe, etc.. it gets as far as the grey screen with a moveable mouse cursor and then hangs, I can move the mouse but nothing else is happening. I tried a few fixes, such as replacing the lsass.exe file with the one in DLLCACHE directory.

Have you tried running a chkdsk?

Yes, and the previous question was exactly the same as mine and ended up with no solution and the user having to recover by re-installing and restoring from backup.
Have you done anything to the server lately? What AV do you have?

No, the only new items appeared to be automatic windows updates, but since I'm not able to login I can't see what was installed, I think my only option is to recover form a Ghost image.
What bothers me is that when I lokked this up in the web Experts-Exchange claimed they had a solution to the problem and they did not! I don't have a problem going back to my previous Ghost image but would like to find a solution in case it shows again on a critical server.

This should fix the issue if you get it up. You can try to do a repair on the system to see if it comes up then apply the hotfix. I would apply the hotfix aganist your reinstall. I would try to repair first before restoring. I hope this helps.

Unfortunatly we needed the server up for some testing and I wasn not able to try other things, but I appreciate your help and will keep the hotfix in file in case the issue re-appears in this server.
Is this a mother board integrated VGA port?
Is this a Video card?
You say this happens in safe mode, what about Safe mode with VGA support?
Have you tried a new monitor and cable?
Can you remote into your server?

If this is a ghost problem, you may have to edit your Boot.ini file. You may be booting up to the Ghosted OS.
