How long can I keep a domain controller shut off
We have 6 sites with domain controllers in a single domain and need to have one of the domain controllers shut down for about two weeks while the buildings service entrance is upgraded and replaced. What kind of problems can I expect to have without this DC talking on the network?
What FSMO roles does that server maintain?
As long as you transfer the PDC Emulator and Operations Master and any other roles like DNS, DHCP, etc to another DC you can have it powered off as long as you like. Once the DC comes back, it will replicate the changes.
60 days is the limit. 2 weeks should be fine. But I agree, make sure this server is not a FSMO role holder or you could have issues.

Don't let the tombstone thing scare you to death...it is a consideration, but not a deal breaker. It is just VERY MUCH more convenient to bring it back online before objects expire. More information about this may be found here:

Thanks for the quick response. It holds no FSMO roles.
