Moving Domain Controllers From Sub-Domain to Parent Domain

Asked by dcvadmins in Windows 2003 Server, Active Directory

Tags: Microsoft, Windows Server 2003, 2003 R2, Domain Controller

I need to move 2 domain controllers from a sub-domain to the parent domain. Currently there are no Windows domain controllers in the top-level domain as it is largely a unix domain. The sub-domain will cease to exist once the migration is complete (small company, no practical business reason for the sub-domain).

Is admt the way to go with this? Will this preserve all GPO settings as well or do I need to export/import GPOs to the top-level domain once a domain controller is in place. I also have folder redirection (My Documents) and roaming profiles setup.

Any advice that will help the transition go smoothly would be greatly appreciated.Start Free Trial
