Accessing computers after VPN access

Asked by driven13 in Windows 2003 Server, Active Directory, Domain Name Service (DNS)

Hello all:

I can connect to the LAN using a VPN client and can RDP into machines using internal IPs (e.g. 192.168.35.5).  All servers are also on the LAN.

Question:
How do I get to another computer within the same LAN by typing in name like "new_server"???

I have made an A record in the DNS server with the computer's internal address under Forward LookupZones and then mydomain.local:

new_server HOST (A) 192.168.35.44

I should be able to get to the aforementioned server via RDP by typing in: new_server

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
