The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

WSUS 8024401b Error: Failure Content Download in branch offices

Asked by it-maintenance in Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP Operating System

Tags: Microsoft, WSUS, 3.0 SP1, 8024401b AutomaticUpdates Failure Content Download Error: Download failed.

Good day dear experts,
All of our clients in branch offices show the "8024401b AutomaticUpdates Failure Content Download Error: Download failed" error in the ReportingEvents.log. The WindowsUpdate.log shows "Error 0x8024401b occurred while downloading update; notifying dependent calls" and "FATAL: DM:CAgentDownloadManager::DownloadUpdate: pDownloadJob->Init failed with 0x8024401b.".

Our main WSUS server is located at the headquarters and is configured to download and store updates locally. The branch office WSUS servers are set up as Replicas and do not store any updates. They simply get the approvals from the main server and clients are then configured to install Updates from Microsoft Update. Replication between the branch office servers and the main server works and does not log any errors.

Servers are all Windows Server 2003 with SP2, clients are Windows XP SP2.

The funny thing is that I am able to go to the Microsoft Update website on any branch office client and download the updates manually from there. It just doesn't work via the wuauclt, even though it's configured to get the updates from just that site.

This problem has started to appear a couple of weeks ago for seemingly no reason. I've since tried various things to work around the problem, but none worked.
- updated all WSUS servers to SP1
- completely reinstalled one of them
- stopped Automatic Updates service on a client and deleted/renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder

I've looked around the web and many people appear to have this problem, but no one can offer a consistent solution.

Has anyone seen or solved this problem?

Regards,

Beni / IT-Maintenance
