Microsoft Licensing in a Work Group
I am trying to determine the number of windows Server CALs needed in a work group. I have about 20 Windows 2003/2000 servers providing services to about 500 users. (YES, I am not in an active directory domain. PLEASE do not ask why or suggest I implement AD!!! thank you very much)
How do I assign Windows 2003 user CALs? Can a user be assigned 1 user cal and then access all the Windows servers in the work group? If I assign 1 machine CAL to a client workstation, can users of the client workstation access all the servers in the workgroup?
I know this is Microsoft licensing 101, but I come from an AD environment where I understood licensing. Now I am in a new job and licensing in a work group is not so clear.

How is licensing configured on the server? Per user or per server? If the servers are per server and you have 500 CALs, you should be good to go.
