The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Activesync not working with Windows Mobile 6 Phones

Hello all, I have been struggling with this Exchange/Activesync issue for a couple months now, and I am confused on what to do.

Sorry for the long post, I just want to be detailed so we don't have to troubleshoot things that have already been done on my server.

I have MS Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP2 here at work, a back-end server, and we have a bunch of employees who want their emails on their phones, which are a variety of carriers and brands, all of which are Windows Mobile 6. I am having issues trying to get the phones to sync.

For now, I figured out how to get iPhone(1g) 2.0 Activesync to work fine. I opened up ports 143 and 993 on our Cisco PIX.

Here are how I setup the iPhones(I selected the Microsoft Exchange option too):

Email:            myemail@mydomain.com
server:            www.mydomain.com
username      myusername
password:      mypassword
Description:      My Exchange Account
SSL:            OFF

The makes the Activesync work on the iPhone, and it works flawlessly. Unfortunately, only about a 1/3 of our employees use iPhones for emails. 1/3 are blackberry(those work fine), and 1/3 are WinMo phones(our problems begin here).

Now, on my exchange server, I have OWA enabled for all accounts.

Per this tutorial http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379, I have sucessfully done the following:

5.      Click the Settings tab, clear the Enable Forms Based Authentication check box, and then click OK.
6.      Close Exchange Manager.
7.      Click Start, click Run, type IISRESET/NOFORCE, and then press ENTER to restart Internet Information Services (IIS).

That did not help me. I already have Forms Based Authentication unchecked. Also, under my "Default Web Site", I have SSL turned off, with no certificates. I just did this for testing. If SSL is turned on, however, the iPhones stop working.

I also did this part:

"Additionally, you must use Internet IIS Manager to create this virtual directory for Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access to work. If you are using Windows Server 2003, follow these steps:"

I followed all those steps a few times, and that did not help either. I created the "Exchange-OMA" virtual directory, but I still seem to be getting errors.

Random errors in event log:

Application errors:

--EventID 3012:
An error occurred while accessing the Active Directory for user [Internet Guest Account]. Information cannot be retrieved from Active Directory due to an unknown error. Verify that the Exchange ActiveSync Server can communicate with Active Directory, and that the user has a valid account.

--EventID 3024:
IP-based AUTD failed to initialize.  Error code: [0x80004005]

--EventID 3015
IP-based AUTD failed to initialize because the processing of notifications could not be setup.  Error code [0x80004005].  Verify that no other applications are currently bound to UDP port [2883], or try specifying a different port number.

I believe if someone can assist me in figuring out how to fix those three errors, I should be fine.
The thing that stumps me is that the iPhone exchange ActiveSync works, but WinMo won't work. On the phones themselves, I get "ActiveSync Not Synchronized. Error ID: 0x80004005".

I highly appreciate any help. Thanks for reading my post.
