The company I work for is currently looking at rolling out a new network and I have some reservations about the system they are looking at approving and would like some input from some of you experts.
Basically the requirments in short are:
The system needs to be able to support up to 160 users at anytiem without performance degredation
There must be a print server that will be able to handle 25 printers
There must be a terminal server that will allow for 40 users to be logged in remotly at anytime
An exchagne server capable of supporting 100 Mailboxes at max of 3.5GB each needs to be inplace.
This is the solution the IT manager has put together:
Servers (2 server with specs below)
HP DL360R05 servers:
4GB RAM
2x 72GB Single Port 15K SAS HDDs (mirrored)
2x Quad-Core Intel Xeon X5450
Storage system:
HP AIO600 1.8T SAS Storage system.
Switches:
HP PROCURVE SWITCH 2810-48G
He is suggesting we configure both the servers with VMWare as follows:
Server 1:
VMWARE Server1: Domain controller
VMWARE Server2: Exchange (databse stored on HP AIO600), print server
Server 2:
VMWARE Server1: Terminal Server
VMWARE Server2: Spare
I guess my concerns are just with the switches beign chosena nd the Server hardware...given teh number of users and room for growth I have suggested we use DL380's and 8GB of RAM as opposed to 4GB per server....or at very least we use 8GB in the DL360's....
Since the managment want the System to never miss a heart beat I have suggested we use CISCO WS-C3560G-48TS-S rather than the HP's....nothing against HP I just have better experiences with Cisco.
Am I wrong in having these reservations? Has anyone put Exchange on a VMWARE box that is also running AD on the same hardware?...any performance issues?
