The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

User Rights on Windows 2003 server

Asked by jbobst in Windows 2003 Server, Active Directory

I have a windows 2003 domain controller.  A user needs right to a directory located in a folder he doesn't typically have rights too (the marketing directory).  Management want this guy to have rights to the marketing directory, so I went ahead and gave him every right, except for full control.  He still can't create new files in the directory or change anything...just list everything.  I then added him into the management and marketing group, which have rights to this directory (all the other users access it just fine).  Still, he can't do anything but list files.  I then added him to the administrators group (just as a test) and he STILL doesn't have any rights but list right.  I have rebootedhis workstation, logged him in and out several time, and still nothing.  I even gave him FULL access right (on the security tab) to the complete hard drive that the marketing directory lives in.  STILL only list rights!  HOWEVER, if I go to his machine and click start, run, and type \\domainserver\e$\marketing, he THEN can create files or do whatever he wants.  However, if I simply type \\domainserver\marketing he can only list files again?!?  The "e:" drive on the server is the drive which contains the marketing directory or rather the marketing share.  The root hard drive is not shared, other than the default $ share...which he can only get to when I give his user admin rights.

I have not rebooted the server yet, but I can't think of anything else to do.  Am I missing something here?
