Is it safe to move contents of C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download?

Hi we "adapted" support of a "server 2003 standard" built with only a 7GB C: drive, so we are constantly trying to save space on C: to avoid it filling up.

Ive already moved pagefile and contents of $hf_mig to another drive

Theres over 1GB of stuff in "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download"
Am I safe to move these items to a different partifition?

You cannot.  See: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29829165/how-to-move-softwaredistr.aspx

How did you move $hf_mig?  It should NOT be moved!

If you need more space on C:, read over my page on C: drive size?

That is a very tiny amount of space to allot to Server2003. Is that truly necessary? I ask, because it creates work and work spends real money (if not readily seen).

To the question of the Software Distribution folder, do you have a lot of pending updates outstanding? I looked at a couple of systems and for me that folder is well under 100Mb. The folder should not be as large as 1Gb if your updates are all done. Or, someone put stuff there.

dont worry too much, you can remove even the whole softwaredistribution folder by stopping the automatic update services.
delete it and restart automatic update services

it will be recreated
