Browse All TopicsThis weekend I am moving all our corporate data from one 2003 server to another 2003 R2 server. I have duplicated most of the 65 gigs of data about two months ago using SyncToy, which unfortunately does not take security permissions. I want to to copy anything that has changed, been added or deleted (I can treat this case differently) since then and I want the security permissions to come over, too.
I am willing to do the whole copy all over again if it's easier.
What is the best way to do this? A software tool? Command-line? If command-line, what are the switches I need?
Thanks!

I ended up going with Robocopy.
I got the latest version I could use with Windows 2003 server. It's version x026,
Available here as part of the Microsoft Robocopy GUI 3.1.2:

Robocopy which will keep permissions (make sure where you're copying to doesn't filter down permissions so that parent is inherited!)
Permcopy will will copy across all the shares too.
Make sure no one, including you doesn't have access to the data you're copying and the location you're copying it to. This will save you lots of time!
You can schedule robocopy to copy changed foldrs etc. Brilliant tool that I've used a few times now with permcopy and it's great.
