Question

Windows 2003 x64 Server InAccessible At Same Time Every Day

We have a Windows 2003 x64 that is inaccessible between 6:37am and 6:42am every day.
This server functions as a SQL Server (SQL 2005).
During that 5 minute time period, we can ping the server, but we can only RDP to it if we disable SQL Server Agent. Otherwise, if we don't disable SQL Server Agent, the server is pingable, but we cannot RDP to it.
We turned off our Anti-Virus and even disabled some Biztalk jobs that access that SQL Server. Still we cannot figure out what is causing this.

This database server is used by a Web Based application (using IIS 6.0). I've attached a screenshot of the message in the event viewer.

Any ideas?

What SQL jobs are running in that period?

You might want to fire up the profiler and/or use the StartBlackBoxTrace (first link below) to see what is happening with SQL at the time.

Also, that looks like an issue might be happening with IIS being overloaded. Do you have morning reports running in the Report Server? Does someone else have them scheduled?

Thank you for this information! I did not know about the Black Box Trace. My only question about it is, how do I redirect the output of the trace file. In other words, I'd rather have it go to a different folder...or perhaps to a table. Is this possible?

You can redirect it. I don't have the full SQL and SSME at home, so I'm going to have to wait till Monday to get back to you on that. If you ping the Q on Monday, I should be able to give you an answer.
