Domain Controller's not responding intermittently 5 mins every alternate hour

I have a wierd problem with my DC's not responding for about 5 mins every hour OR alternate hour . There is not a pattern.

I have 2 DC's with FSMO roles distributed.

Both the DC's randomly go down. This is also tracked with my monitoring software as well.

Since the DC's not responding, various applications which depends on it for authentication, fail to authenticate.

DCdiag and Netdiag on both DC's are clean.

Event Logs dont show me anything at all.....

What monitoring software are you using and how is it showing that the DC's are not responding?

My first thought is physical network issue of some kind or some other host on the network is flooding your network with traffic.  If you can monitor the connections to your servers using something like wireshark and see if the physical network goes down next time the servers stop responding.  If not then it is something on the servers themselves and that can be more fun to figure out.

Thx for your response. I am using Opmanager as monitoring tool.

1. I would like to rule out physical network issue of any kind because, its happening only on the DC's , randomly ( which are connected to 2 different switches )


2. I believe it may be because of some SOME HOST flooding the network with traffic. This can very well be possible. Now need to identify that. Since its caused randomly, its difficult to isolate. Will have to run wireshark for an extended time....Had downloaded Microsoft Network Monitor for it....


3. Additionally, any service on the server can be a cause of it. ( I am suspecting Altiris Patch MGT Service. But I have uninstalled most of it, with its agent still being there. Need a manual uninstall for it )
