The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

DNS Hit and Miss on SBS2003

Asked by rjilek in Windows 2003 Server, SBS Small Business Server

Tags: SBS2003 DNS Exchange

I've got a SBS2003 box that has been acting up in regards to DNS.  All was well until about 2 weeks ago then I was getting some delays on email and started poking around a bit.  Reading through many of the posts here I tried and checked many things but must be missing something.  Copied below is the ipconfig.  xx.xx.xx.10 is this server.  xx.xx.xx.1 is the gateway/router.  DNS is pointing to only itself.  I have forwarders set up for the 2 main DNS's at our ISP as well as I've tried some others out there just in case they were having troubles. I've tried putting additional name servers in root hints just in case.

I'm not totally without DNS but it is just about 30%... If I do a NSLOOKUP on a domain it may take up to 3 or 4 tries to get it to resolve without timing out. Sometimes it will work first shot.  Web access is certainly limited as well as a result.  If you keep reloading the page it will eventually come up.  YET ping will pretty much every time resolves the domain name!  I'm getting messages queuing up in exchange trying to send as a result....  Client machines are fine as they pull DNS through DHCP from the rounter/firewall.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
