Question

DOMAIN is not accessible?

Asked by: AymanDasa

We have a Server 2003 and our domain name is ZOSCO. Normally I am able to access network files through Microsoft Windows Network and then I would click the "ZOSCO" domain. Now what is happening is that I get the error message

"ZOSCO  is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.  The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available".

I have domain rights through my workstation account , so I should be having permissions?

This is where things get weird. When I click run and type: "\\fileserver" or "\\192.168.1.5"  I immediately can access all the shared folders on the server. However I find it really strange since I am able to log onto the domain without a problem. When I go to cmd.exe and I try to ping 192.168.1.2 I get

Reply from 192.168.1.5: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

I do not know what happened to my Domain  because everything was working properly.

1. So you have a WINS server in the network?
2. Check and see if you have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled on the clients.
3. Check the DHCP scope options to see if you are using the correct WINS node type (should be h-node)

Thanks,
Raj

Check below services are running.

1. DNS client service
2. Windows Time
3. Workstation
4. Server

If everything is fine. Then goto command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns" and "ipconfig /registerdns". And restart the computer.

If this not solves then disjoint your computer from domain and rejoin to domain this should fix the issue.

Hello there.

I would say that this is Browser Service problem. Check to see if the service is started, and check the logs about errors.
If that is the case, I will point you some good articles to help you understand and troubleshoot browser service problems.

Here are 2 articles you should read:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188001
The one above describes Computer Browser Service.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188305
The one above helps you troubleshoot these problems.

I say you read them carefully.
About WINS and NETBIOS, you should have WINS, and you should set Netbios.

How do you know if it's a browser service problem? If you don't have errors related with that, configure WINS and Netbios first.

It could be a browser problem, but I think I would like to start with Internet Explorer Enhanced Security:

If not, let's troubleshoot the browser.

Hi..

First check whether your DNS is properly registered or not... Give NSLOOKUP and check whether it points to your DNS server.

If not try to ping <domain name>.com... this should reply with ur DNS server IP. if not look into host record for your domain name in DNS directory.

I do not find any accepted solution so I format the domain and install it from scratch
