The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Windows Server 2003 event ID 16645 'failed to obtain new indentifier pool'

Asked by mendmycomputer in Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft Operating Systems

Tags: W2k3, 2000, server, RID

We have been happily running 2 seperate networks with 100-130 machines all connecting to a Server running windows Server 2003 SP2. We have now had the need to move about 50+ pcs from one network on to the other. This was all going swimmingly until;

while attempting to connect a PC to the server i got a message saying something to the affect of the sctive directory could not obtain a unique identifier and was therefore unable to proceed joining the domain. The server seemed to then immediately loose speed and become very unresponsive after a reboot it was ok for about 1/2 a day until i switched over a few more machines and then the same again.

In the servers event logs i have some SAM errors at these times:-

1st error:   Even ID 16645

The maximum account identifier allocated to this domain controller has been assigned. The domain controller has failed to obtain a new identifier pool

Followed by a DHCPServer error event id 1059

The DHCP service failed to see a directory server for authorization.

In the research i've done its suggest this is a problem with the RID role and that i need to adjust the RID Block Size in the registry, but if so then no one mentions what it should or could be adjusted too....

Please help

As at the moment i have to turn off some machines and reboot the server to restabilise the network
