The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Failed: UserDomainName native call failed.

Asked by Stoner79 in Windows 2003 Server

On a custom application we use we have a service account setup.  This has been working for a year with no problems and with no apparent changes to the server (reboots, hotfixes) the account has now a problem with the service it uses.

The service starts ok.  The application the service uses pushes some files to another server.  I've logged on with the service account and checked the permissions are ok (which they are) and it can write/delete on the target share.

The error is below:

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      Customer Application Service
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      0
Date:            24/06/2009
Time:            14:18:37
User:            N/A
Computer:      Server
Description:
UserDomainName native call failed.

There doesn't appear to be much help on this error code on the web so I've tried a few things.
Confirmed account was in Logon as Service policy - it is
Elevating the user rights to Domain Admin - didn't work
Resetting the password - didn't work
Change account to my domain admin account - works
Change account to another domain service account - works
Cloned my domain admin account and renamed - didn't work
Created new account - didn't work

I'm quite stumped on this issue.  At the moment I'm using the other service account, although it's not ideal as users do lo on with this account and when it gets locked the service needs restarting.

The server is referencing an account on another trusted domain, but this does work as I can log on with the account.

Any ideas?
