Question

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition: The Evaluation Copy

Asked by: tjie

Hi,

1) I have downloaded the Evaluation Copy of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition per direction of this link:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/2003_Server/Q_24666308.html
- I go to the Http://www.petri.co.il/....
2) It was an ISO Files
- I put it at the Jump drive
3) I want to make VM machines from this ISO Files
- During the installation, it requested the License key; i just skip it
4)My question: Do we need the License Key for this Evaluation Copy? If yes, how to get it? ( I believe that we can use this Evaluation Copy free; am I right or wrong?)
5) Thank you

tjie

evaluation is totally free to use for the period of time designated.  Some require a keys others do not.

Depending on where you got your evaluation ISO, you may need a key.  The key should be available from a link on the same page you got the ISO from.  Most Evals work for 180 days.  Yes you can use the Eval for free, but being that it is time limited, it is NOT recommended that you use the eval ISO in a production environment.

1) I got it from the above link under
- http: www.petri ..........
- But it did not see the license key
- Could you check it for me please?

2) I want to use this only for testing; i am using the vmwares
- Of course, i do not use it in Production environment

3) Thank you

While www.petri.co.il is a great knowledge repository, you shouldn't be downloading OS ISOs from there.  I would recommend you download the ISO from here after registering for evaluation.  You'll be issued a registration key when you do this as well:

The site that you download from is from a ligitamate company that run ceritifcation courses, and would not be offering downloads of microsoft unless they are ligitamate.  With that should if you want to make sure you have a key to enter to to the site mentioned about.  A evaluation copy is an evaluation copy and some you need a license key an others you do.

While I agree that Petri.co.il is a legit company, and as I said a GREAT KNOWLEDGE REPOSITORY, as per Microsoft's recommendations, you should only download their software from them - otherwise, you risk malware/pirating/etc - if you don't run the site, you can never be sure of its intentions.

Unfortunately, I am a technet member, so I don't see the same stuff that you see when you sign in.  I would suggest if you are having issues finding where to go, you call Microsoft Product Support and ask them where to go to get your key.

by: PriceDPosted on 2009-08-20 at 19:38:23ID: 25148757

All the registration part is is when it displays your name and you confirm it.  You just continue on from there.

by: PriceDPosted on 2009-08-20 at 19:51:44ID: 25148813

Ok, I just went throught the process.  What you do is log in with your live account once you select the link.  Choose the windows server that you want, it will ask you for you mailing address and other information.  It will take you throught a process as if you are order the trial version and you will see it does ask from Credit Card info or anything and the chaarge is zero.  You will go to the check out and at the end it will give you a serial number and will email you a download link.

by: PriceDPosted on 2009-08-20 at 19:57:53ID: 25148834

sorry I should say it does NOT ask for credit card.  Now when you go to the link that is sent via email you have a choice of language and other options as well.

1) Thank you for both of you
2) PriceD, you save my day Bro!

Thanks,
Tjie
