Sounds reasonable. I will have to wait until I go onsite tomorrow to try it. Will I be able to rename the new folder? Is that even advisable?

Browse All TopicsHad to rebuild our SBS 2003 server. That part went without problems. The Users Shared Folders, however, was on a separate drive from the OS (Drive D:, a RAID array), and though it and the rest of the data on Drive D: were unharmed, I could not access it after the reinstallation was complete. I restored the Users Shared Folder from backup but had to rename it because the original folder was still there. The new folder is named User Shared Folders, no "s" on User. Everything is working fine with this new configuration but I want to the delete the Users Shared Folders folder because it is taking up ~100GB. I cannot, however, delete this folder either from Windows Explorer or the command line.
How do I do it? If I am able to do that, would it be possible then to rename the new folder - User Shared Folders - to the old name - Users Shared Folder? If so, how...without hosing anything?

The SID for the old share got blown out when you reinstalled. Change the securtity perimissions on the Root of D: or on the folder containing the shares to something new with full access and set all sub-folders to inherit the permissions.
Then you should be able to delete them.
