I had a Win32/Parite infection that Norton Endpoint 11 cleaned. After that I rebooted the server at which time I could no longer login to the administrator. It takes my password like normal and acts like its logging in but immediately save profile and logs right back off to the ctrl-alt-del screen. The server is used as a file server mostly and has no other users set up. How do I get back in???

I apologize for stopping this closing action, but I strongly concur with the suggestion from Netman66.
It is one thing to work on 'disinfecting' a work station or home computer, but a server host is much too critical to treat the same way.
I am going to start the 'auto-close' process to accept his comment, but please respond if the Moderator team can help you in any way.

Well guys I have to say that while I understand what you are saying and why you are saying it as advisory you did not answer the question I asked. I asked how to get around being locked out and renew the admin log in. I already knew that I could wipe everything off the disk and start from scratch. I didn't really need you to tell me that. I was looking for something with a little more depth of experience and technical expertise on how to get around the issue and then perhaps your advice to wipe it all out attached as a caution. But its only a file server right now and I can always wipe it out. But that as your only answer is not helpful. So if thats all you guys got then I did not get my answer and I guess you can close the question but I was really hoping for a lot more.

How do you install the OS over the top of itself? It only offers to do a new install which reformats the drive destroying the data or it offers to "repair" which does not change the administrator profile and does not solve the problem as this is what I tried. How else would you install the OS "over the top of itself"?
