ISA SERVER 2004 Install causes connectivity problems

Asked by jezza007 in Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft Server

Tags: ISA Server 2004 DHCP internet limited or no connectivity server 2003 small business premium

Hi there,

I am using small business server 2003 premium. Everything works fine i.e. the LAN on Nic port 1 and the modem on Nic port 2 (which is picking up all the ip settings of an internet facing port - like the modem would i suppose). It picks up the IP (our company's WAN IP) via the modem's DHCP service.

I have done a similar setup before, no problems but this time when I install ISA server 2004 NIC port 2 stops picking up the ip of our ISP from the modem.

I have seen some instructions of a similar problem to fix the DHCP not being accepted by the server but its not fixing the problem eg:

....highlight the firewall policy in the gui along the top of the gui, select the system policy. This will open up another 15-20 rules. Be aware these are special ones please.......

Scroll down the rules and you will (I think it is number 8, 9 or 10) allow dhcp requests from ISA to all networks.
Open this and add local host and external to the 'from' box The next rule should be allow dhcp replies Do the same to this rule, add local host and external save and apply the policy.
Click on system policy at the top to hide it again......

Also a manual ip doesnt seem to work either, it says connected but there is no internet and i cant ping an external ip.

All this is happening AFTER ISA 2004 is installed. I am not a pro at this stuff so any advice would be appreciated!!!

Thanks Peter
